The
Cumulus Importer enables you to import information from a text
file into a Canto Cumulus catalog. With
the help of the software you can import information from any other
database system, Excel spreadsheet or text list into the fields of your Cumulus Catalogs.
The metadata should be exported from the other database system
in the standard database export file format (database fields delimited
by tabulator character). You can assign the information to each
and every Cumulus field (Record Field or Category Field). The
metadata can be imported into text fields, string list fields or
into the Cumulus category tree.
The software supports saving the field assignments in an
Import Scheme File. This is very helpful for user that have frequent import tasks, it is also very useful while configuring the import setup if a new import configuration is similar to the ones already configured.
While importing into records new Categories (or Category Hierarchies) and missing list entries can be created in the Field Definitions, so these new objects can be assigned to the record. In former versions of the Cumulus Importer, two seperate import processes were needed. Now this can be done in one import process. But you still have both options: create missing Categories / List Entries or just use the available ones in the catalog for the import.
You can specify the Character Encoding of the import text file (ISO-8859-1, UTF-8, ...). So now it is fairly easy to import metadata that comes from other platforms (e.g. UNIX) that support other character encodings. In the import setup, you just specify the character encoding used while creating the text file and the Cumulus Importer will convert the text using the encoding necessary for the Cumulus Client platform on Mac OS X or Windows.
The version also supports Cumulus' Multi Catalog Collections. You can have a number of catalogs (in a number of different windows) open while importing into the one specified Cumulus Catalog.
If you are using a schemefile, it is only necessary that the specified Catalog is open in one of the different Cumulus Client windows.
The current version 8 is an implementation for Canto
Cumulus 8 and higher, that has been optimized to work with the Cumulus Java Classes 8 (CJC 8). The use of the CJC 8 makes the import process up to 10 times faster than using the Cumulus 7.x integration.
The new version contains 1 year of Software Maintenance. This ensures access to current software updates and entitles the user to use the email tech support.
If you are using Cumulus 7.5/7.6, please
use the Cumulus Importer version 7.5. If you would like to use the Cumulus
Importer with an earlier version of Cumulus 6.x to 7.1.x, please
use the Cumulus Importer 6.6.
If
you want to import text data into Cumulus Catalogs of the version
5 or 5.5, use the version 3.x of the Cumulus Importer. Click
